Program Description:
Internship/Residency in Kyoto, Japan

University of Toledo students will go to Kyoto-based SANDWICH Studios, a well-established art, design, and architecture studio, in the early summer of 2017 (late May through July) for student internships. 3-6 advanced students will go to Kyoto and they will be supervised  as they contribute to studio projects. During this time, They will be introduced  to cultural sites and art venues in the areas near Kyoto, Osaka, and Nara.

The program provides an exchange of experience and knowledge through mutual communication between the visiting artists and SANDWICH. SANDWICH residence program is different from a general “artists in residence” in that students will join/assist in the production and conceptualization of studio projects. Participants assist in the studio rather than devoting themselves to personal projects alone. This experience is valuable because it allows students to contribute to actual projects while learning a variety of working strategies from a creative team.
