What is the program?
This course will immerse students into fieldwork in the Dominican Republic to understand cultural and social aspects of local realities and develop skills in ethnographic and participatory methods while learning about contemporary issues in the Dominican Republic from sociological and anthropological perspectives. Students will gain conceptual and practical tools to conduct international research. Through collaboration with a community organization, we will explore the roles that researchers, NGOs and communities can play in designing and carrying out research. Course activities will begin online, continue on-site in the Dominican Republic, and end online in two-week intervals.

This is an opportunity to gain elective credits over the summer. Courses available are SOC 4980/5980 Special Topics in Sociology or ANTH 4980/5980 Special Topics in Anthropology which are both 6 credit hours. This program is open to both Undergraduate and Graduate students.

Estimated Program Cost
 $3,157 (without tuition) includes:
  • Daily breakfast, nine lunches, and nine dinners in-country
